Hike Date: July 18, 2010. April 3, 2011
Distance: ~ 5 miles (if you do the whole park)
Trail(s): Fort Funston Trail, Dutch Sand Ladders
Where’s it at? San Francisco, CA south of Ocean Beach

I had a good time on this hike but I don’t really consider it a destination hike. It’s nice to visit and would be a great trail to keep you in shape if you are local. Part of the problem was that it is VERY crowded. There is essentially zero privacy. If you aren’t surrounded by other hikes, or off-leash dog walkers, you will certainly be in sight of hang gliders. The gliders are very fun to watch at first but it gets old a little quickly.

I pretty much hiked the entire area. My favorite part was on the very southern end, south of where the hand gliders takeoff and land, where there is a fairly steep descent down sandy bluffs to the beach below. The beach was definitely the highlight.
